Maria de Fátima Mata-Mouros has a law degree from the University of Lisbon’s Law School, a post-graduate diploma in European Studies from the Portuguese Catholic University, and a PhD from the Portuguese Catholic University.
She is the author of Sob Escuta, Cascais, Principia, 2003; Direito à Inocência, Cascais, Principia, 2007; and Juiz das Liberdades, Desconstrução de um Mito do Processo Penal, Almedina, 2011.
She has been a judge since 1985 in various first instance and appeal courts.
On 1 July 2010, she was elected an ad hoc justice of the European Court of Human Rights.
She was a Constitutional Court Justice from July 2012 to November 2021.
In November 2021, she was elected President of the Political Accounts and Financing Commission.
